Holy Spirit of God, Be present to all who are dying,

Sustain them by your power; Console them by your love.Even in ther sufferings, will them with your joy.

When their eyes close to the things of this world, Grant that they may open them again on your unfailing light, and grant that, losing this world, they may gain all things resting in eternal possession of you. Amen.

All-powerful  and merciful God, we commend to you, those who die this day.
In your mercy  and love,
blot out all the sins they have committed through human weakness.  In this world they died: let them live with you for ever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.Amen.

Saints of God, come to their aid! Come to meet them angels of the Lord!

Receive their souls and present them to God the most High.

May Christ, who called them, take them to himself; may angels lead them to Abraham’s side.

Give them eternal rest O Lord and may your light shine upon them. Amen.

Loving Spirit of God, have mercy on the dying

• Those dying in pain and suffering
• Those dying in fear and loneliness
• Those dying from hunger and a lack of physical resources
• Those dying violent deaths
• Those dying without any knowledge of your infinite tenderness and compassion.

Bring to all a sense of your presence.Guard them as the apple of your eye. Shelter them in the shadow of your wings and enfold them in your presence. This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen. 

PRAYERS TO THE MOTHER OF  GOD

Mother of God, Light in all darkness, shelter  Him, our flame of  hope in your tender hands.And in our times of dread and  nightmares, Let  him be our dream of comfort.             And in out times of physical pain  and  suffering, let Him be our healer.                                And in our times of separation from God  and  one another,                                                     let him be our communion. Amen.

Pray for  us, holy Mother of God, and give us  the grace to stand with those who suffer and who die. Help us be for them a  strong support, a  sure hope and a source of grace. Amen.

Hail  Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with  you. Blessed are you among women, and  blessed is the fruit of your womb,  Jesus.

And  in him are blessed: all those who look to  him at the point of death; those who  die suddenly or violently; all who mour  the death of a loved one; and those  for whom the process of dying is  fearful

Holy  Mary, Mother of God, pray for us  sinners, now and at the hour of our  death.Amen

Eternal  rest give to those who die this day  dear God.

• Those who die alone, uncared for; 
• those whose fear of life
• or lack of  hope leads them to end their lives.

Lift  them into you, and grant them your  peace and sure joy. Amen

May  God support us all the day long
till  the shadows lengthen
and  the evening comes
and the busy world is  hushed
and the fever of life is  over
and our work is done -

may God give us a safe  lodging
